Instant Pneuma (Kaitlin) Presents her first DJ set: a tribute to Arctic Monkeys and The Last Shadow Puppets frontman Alex Turner.

I couldn’t have named or identified an Arctic Monkeys song as recently as 9 months ago. I didn’t know the name Alex Turner. While streaming Triple J- Like a Version (well known bands covering other well known bands songs) a song came on and the title said, ‘The Arctic Monkeys covering Tame Impala, It Feels Like We Always Go Backwards,” and I was like, ‘awe, fuck that! I hate the arctic monkeys (I actually didn’t know any of their songs. I’m just a hater of things that are popular) and who the fuck names their band Tame Impala?!’ And then Alex Turner started singing….. that was it. I have been going down an Alex Turner rabbit hole of music and interviews and buying singles on vinyl for the B-sides… the dude is phenomenal! He’s so reminiscent of Bowie it almost makes me feel like Bowie is still with us. And I like that feeling. He is hilarious, has incredible vocal abilities, writes all his songs, clearly doesn’t take himself too seriously, and he MIGHT be an alien.

  Stream the Show Download the Music I am lucky enough to have a great radio station in my town: 89.3 The Current. It is a public radio "Adult Alternative" station, similar to KEXP Seattle. I listen several hours a day and the highlight was always the 2pm to 6pm shift, occupied (until recently) by Mary Lucia (The "Looch") One of the nice things about The Current is that they (unlike most radio stations) let their hosts choose some of their own music. After listening to Mary for a few years, I can always tell when a song is one that she added to the mix. She is a rocker and a 70s kid, like (most of) us. So for example, between songs by Billie Eilish and Father John Misty, she drops in AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" Those are the surprises that made her show so fun to listen to...
