The 17 Series: Cheech & Chong
The 17 Series: Cheech & Chong (Craig)
At the tender and impressionable age of about 13 or so, my buddy Aaron and I discovered Cheech and Chong through the older brothers of kids who lived on our cul-de-sac. We got a hold of their Los Cochinos/Big Bambu LPs and played them endlessly, laughing at humor we were only beginning to understand. We were also impressed by the adventures in stereo that we were both starting to pay more attention to in the rock music of the 70s we were also discovering at the time. This, btw, had an effect on our own future music recordings that occasionally featured atmospheric sound fx and buried audio nuggets. So, Cheech & Chong with legendary rock producer Lou Adler created these hilarious environments such as classrooms, drive-in movies, sports arenas, city streets, etc., it was really heady stuff for the stoner crowd. We began to know these records inside and out and would often act out the skits on the front law to other kids, then record them on his stereo boombox, so much fun! I wish we still had those early recordings. This “17” is my personal favorites collection, with it’s very non PC dated humor it’s sure to offend those faint of heart with children in the room, hope y’all enjoy! -Cz
