The 17 Series: JJ Cale
The 17 Series: JJ Cale (Swi) JJ Cale is a semi-new discovery for me, but I was instantly drawn-in by his laid back porch-rock style of guitar playing. His songs are full of tight, in the pocket grooves and he has one of those mellowed out voices that makes you feel cooler just listening to it. To borrow Wikipedia's words to explain his style: ' He is considered to be one of the originators of the Tulsa Sound , a loose genre drawing on blues , rockabilly , country , and jazz .' My introduction to him came many years ago by way of his hits 'Cocaine' and 'After-Midnight', but even those I found by way of more famous musicians covering them (Eric Clapton and Jerry Garcia, notably). I didn't get deep with his discog until mid-2020. This 17 focuses more so on his first half-dozen or so albums, as I feel his later works begin to repeat themselves in both lyrical content and musicianship. Smoke em if you got em, kick back, tap your foot and enjoy!...
